HDTV has arrived.  Prices are dropping, sales numbers are rising - and there is finally a growing selection of content available on multiple networks - cable and satellite.  Within the coming years, HDTV will replace existing television, much as color replaced black & white.

Early in 2004 a new standard for High Definition DVD was announced by Microsoft, employing their Windows Media 9 codec.  This is a compression algorithm that is 3x more efficient for the same quality as MPEG2, which is what's used by cable tv and standard DVD's.  That means that High Definition can now fit onto a standard red-laser DVD, no need to wait for (more expensive) blue-laser technology to arrive.

Early in 2005 the first set-top High Def DVD players are being released in the U.S. - supporting this standard.   Additionally, High Def titles with this spec are playable on a PC (at least 2.4GHz) - either on the PC's monitor, or output to an HDTV in full resolution through DVI.  That means that already millions of consumers can already watch such titles - whether or not they already have an HDTV!

High Def Movies specializes in High Def DVD authoring - as well as editing, encoding and other associated services.
